The only saving grace of this mess is that at least they picked the blonde, white princess as their example - at least it's not recognizably racist. It's the whole new level of offensive that I can't even fully articulate. NO CHILD SHOULD EVER READ THIS! It goes beyond anti-feminist. Her whole narrative is about flight from domestic responsibilities into a life of cossetted privilege! WHY WOULD YOU THEN PRESENT HER AS CHEERFULLY AND VOLUNTARILY CLEANING WITH NO HINT AS TO *WHY* SHE IS SO ASSOCIATED WITH DOMESTIC TASKS?!? WHY WOULD YOU PRESENT HER AS THE MODEL FOR HELPFUL CHILDREN?!? An excellent model for children.Ĭinderella on the other hand? She lived a life one rung up from slavery, abused and mistreated and FORCED to clean and keep things tidy. This is why she was beloved by animal and dwarf alike. She took responsibility for her own situation and demonstrated gratitude.
